Look Up! You Missed It...

You will change, in the twinkling of an eye. And yet, you won't. You'll still be you, the person you were on this earth. You'll continue where you left off. I remember hearing this for the first time from an Eastern Orthodox priest. I remember being struck by the idea, something I had never thought of before. But, is this a good thing? Do I want to continue into eternity as my present self?

Vespers talk. Jesus is coming soon, who cares about being environmentally friendly, we have better things to do with our time. Yet, we're practicing. Basketball: "Don't practice missing, you might get good at it." If we practice trashing the earth now, we'll be well prepared to trash the new earth.

Does this perspective change how we look at day to day actions? Getting up, starting that assignment. Does it change how we look at certain portions of scripture? Tell us the why, show us the importance.
